Kristin: I’d like to introduce just an amazing-amazing woman she’s been around helping thousands and thousands of families. I feel so honored to have you, thank you so much for being here Dr. Elizabeth Mumper.
Dr. Elizabeth Mumper: My pleasure.
Kristin: For those that are watching, can give a little background about where your practice is located and really what you do in your practice?
Dr. Elizabeth Mumper: Okay, so I’m located in central Virginia, the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Not easy to fly to, but a beautiful place to live. I was teaching in a residency program actually in the late 90s when I started noticing so many kids with chronic illness. In 2000 I established a practice I called Advocates For Children. Which is to help some of those kids that were falling through the cracks.
We use a very collaborative model where we work as partners with the families to try to take them on their healing journeys. I’m also very interested in trying to prevent chronic illness and children which is a lot of what I do in my general pedes practice. In 2006 I started Advocates For Families. Is more specifically designed for people that have complex chronic illness. You know lots of autism, but some other stuff. We reach people from other states and countries in that practice.
