Get to Know Barlean’s and Their Omega Oils!

Get your week started out right with a new installment of our Get To Know series!  Here at Autism Hope Alliance (AHA), we would not be where we are without the incredible support of our amazing partners. In this series, we check in with some of our partners to bring you their latest news, as well as ask some frequently asked questions.

This week, we are so pleased to introduce you to Barlean’s. At Barleans they believe people can make a difference in the world through ordinary purchases. The Barlean Family, based out of Washington, are committed to improving the quality of life for every person on the planet by making the best products possible and by using their profits to support outreach programs.

Barlean’s products include the world’s finest and freshest Omega-3, Omega-7, Coconut Oil, Greens and Superseeds products.

We asked Barlean’s Social Media Manager, Kristen Mattila, to tell us a bit more about their incredible line of omega oils. Read on to discover why Barlean’s should be in your pantry!

Get to Know: Barlean’s

AHA: What is Omega-3 and what is it good for?

Kristen: Omega-3 is an essential nutrient needed by everyone, every day, for their whole lifetime and must be obtained through our food or supplements. It supports brain and eye function/development, integrity of our cell membranes and helps to counter chronic inflammation.

AHA: What are the neurological benefits of taking omega-3’s/fish oils regularly?

Kristen calls little Amayah their “#1 Fan”. She calls Barlean’s her “dessert”!

Kristen: A great example of the neurological benefits of omega 3’s can be found on our blog post here.

AHA: How much fish oil should I take?

Kristen: The daily recommendation often depends on the person, their age and the reason why they are supplementing with Omega-3s. Thats why we also suggest consulting with your health care professional to see what amount will be optimal for your health. Our regular Omega Swirl Fish Oils come with 720mg EPA/DHA per serving of Omega-3s per serving and our Ultra High Potency has 1,500mg EPA/DHA per serving.

AHA: If your child does not like eating fish, are Omega supplements enough to help support them?

Kristen: Yes, they are. We think nutrition is best served delicious. All of our Omega Swirls are emulsified making them 3 times more absorbable that standard fish oil. By emulsifying the fish oil in our Swirls, we make the Omega-3s more bio-available (absorbable) to your body. That means you get more of the nutritional value out of every spoonful.

The best part is that you’ll taste the fruit, not the fish. The creamy texture and delicious taste means that even kids will ask for their fish oil. One parent said, “(My son) loves taking the product. It has a great taste and smell. It’s appealing to children.” Plus, they are sugar-free, gluten-free, non-GMO, no artificial flavors, casein free and dairy free.

AHA: What’s the difference between fish oil and flax seed oil?

Kristen: Fish oil is a standard, proven way to boost Omega-3s. Just make sure the fish oil you use is a recognized, quality brand that is purified to remove heavy metals, like mercury, and
other toxins. Fish oils are available in liquid or soft gel form, and even some delicious, creamy emulsified forms that are easy-on- the-tummy!

We have both options, plus Omega Swirl (see answer #4). Flax Oil is the very best source of plant-based Omega-3. A great solution for vegans and vegetarians who do not want fish oil.
Flax Oil is rich in the Omega-3 Fatty Acid ALA (Alpha linolenic Acid). ALA is converted by the body into EPA and DHA, which are the same healthful fatty acids found in oily fish oil such as salmon and fish oil supplements.
